In his systematic encounters with pop culture, Kelley Walker has earned himself the nickname of “post-pop wizard”. Walker produces a series of loaded pop images through a copy, cut, and reprint technique that often involves screen-printing and an Epson ink jet printer. The artist also explores the concept of contamination by integrating alien bodies and elements to his works. Whether computer glitches appearing on photographs of natural disasters, or perfectly constructed brick walls cemented with pages from decoration reviews, the results are often violent, hilarious, spontaneous, and overdetermined all at once. Rather than simple silkscreens, Walker’s masterful precision often creates the impression of looking at a mosaic.
The Skateroom is a social entrepreneurship that collaborates with renowned contemporary artists to produce iconic works of art on skateboards at accessible prices. Their sales directly support NGO's such as Skateistan, in their efforts to build skateparks and schools across Afghanistan, Cambodia, South Africa and plan to build many more in the coming future, empowering youth through skating, art and education. The editions are sold via selected museums globally, some art galleries and eventually edgy concept and design stores. The Skateroom donate up to 20% of their turnover to independent NGO’s (mostly to Skateistan), they also want to be an example of a fair and equitable company: they produce from certified sustainable forest in Canada and compensate yearly all of our carbon (CO2) emissions. They are therefore hoping to work with retailers that understand and respect such values.
